When Artichokes Attack

I had big plans for my post today.

I was going to share with you this delicious recipe for Lemon Braised Artichokes over Pasta. I was going to talk about how easy to prepare it was, how the artichokes were so tender and lemony, how the whole meal represented all that is good about the spring.

Though I had never prepared artichokes before, i had the highest of hopes.

12-26-10 - FRIDAY 018

I sliced the artichokes, per the recipe.

12-26-10 - FRIDAY 019

I felt I had a good handle on things.

12-26-10 - FRIDAY 022

Then things just kind of....

12-26-10 - FRIDAY 023

....fell apart

12-26-10 - FRIDAY 024

How can I put this delicately?

This dish?

Did not come out good.

At all.

The artichokes were hard and tough on the outside and mush on the inside. I didn't peel them enough. I didn't cook them correctly. I created an abomination from a delicious spring vegetable.
Tragic!

Once I do some more research and clean all of the artichoke "feathers" out of my kitchen, I plan on attempting this again.

You will not conquer me, Artichoke! You may have one the first battle but I intend to win the war!

You are too funny. I typically just steam my artichokes - haven't attempted anything further with them - but even with that, my plate looks like a disaster zone when I get to the heart!!
