A Better (Turkey) Burger

In my journey through life - I require at times a kickass burger. We have been on a ground turkey kick for a few years now in my home and while a well made turkey burger can be a beautiful thing...I find myself wanting something different.

This recipe I found on Real Simple substitutes a good portion of the ground turkey with grated veggies which yields a super flavorful and moist burger that is pretty much amazing. Definitely my new favorite. And a great way to sneak veggies into Non Veg Lovers. Check it out!

Turkey Burgers with Grated Zucchini and Carrot
from Real Simple

3/4 pound ground turkey
1 medium zucchini, grated
1 medium carrot, grated
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg (I used 2 egg whites)
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 whole wheat buns

I don't have a grater so I rougly chopped the veggies and then pulsed them in the food processor a few times and this worked a-ok.

In a large bowl, combine the turkey, zucchini, carrot, garlic, thyme, salt, pepper, and egg. Form the mixture into 4 patties.

They will be kind of wet - so stick them in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes to firm them up a bit. This will make them a lot easier to turn while cooking them!

Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties, turning once, until no trace of pink remains, 4 to 5 minutes per side.

Serve on toasted whole wheat buns with a nice side salad.

OMG i made these last weekend and they were SOOOO good. actually, i made them beef because i couldn't get ground turkey but the thing with the carrots and zucchini is genius. you only need half the meat and it's still great. LOVE them! :)
